Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign aligners are custom-built using BPA-free smooth plastic and function as an aesthetically appealing alternative to metal braces. Since Invisalign doesn’t use brackets or wires, the aligners are virtually invisible while you wear them.

There are multiple benefits to wearing Invisalign, including:

  • Designed for convenience and comfort
  • Easier to care for than braces
  • Fewer food restrictions
  • They’re clear so the treatment is inconspicuous
  • Easier to brush and floss your teeth

Invisalign is a great way to fix mild or moderately crowded teeth and a misaligned bite. However, Invisalign is limited in the issues it can correct, so if you have more severe crowding or spacing problems, you may need a different treatment.

The best way to determine if Invisalign is right for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Satvat and her dental staff.

What’s the process of getting Invisalign like?

Dr. Satvat uses a gneuromuscular orthodontic approach, meaning she considers how your temporomandibular joint, facial muscles, neck, and teeth work in harmony.

During your consultation, she’ll use the TENS machine and the K-7 Evaluation System to study your jaw and find your optimal bite position. She does this to determine your optimal jaw alignment, which helps in knowing if Invisalign is right for you.

Once your aligners are made, you’ll come back to Brightleaf Dental to pick up all your aligners for the treatment. Generally, you wear one set of aligners for two weeks and then switch to the next set until you’ve finished your treatment.

You should wear your aligners between 20-22 hours each day to achieve optimal results.

What is the difference between Invisalign and traditional braces?

While both Invisalign and traditional metal braces are designed to move your teeth into proper alignment over time, there are some differences.

Invisalign is made from BPA-free plastic, so when you wear your aligners they don’t irritate or rub against your lips or inside your cheeks. With metal braces, the brackets or wires can cause your lips or gums to bleed.

Another wonderful aspect of Invisalign is that they’re removable, so it’s easier to brush and floss your teeth. Additionally, you won’t have the dietary restrictions to chewy or hard foods that you would with metal braces.

Invisalign can help you get a picture-perfect smile while being discreet because the aligners are invisible. For more information, call Brightleaf Dental or schedule an appointment online today.
