DO YOU HAVE GUM DISEASE SYMPTOMS? DON’T WAIT…OR IT COULD BE TOO LATE!
Affecting all ages, gum disease is silent, sneaking up on you while slowly damaging your gums, teeth and the bone in your jaw. Many people are unaware gum disease is present until it has reached an advanced stage. Bleeding gums are the most common symptoms of periodontal disease. If you’ve noticed the signs and symptoms of gum disease, it’s important to get it treated – the sooner the better. We can offer you a wide variety of effective gum disease treatments.
DO YOU HAVE ANY SIGNS LIKE THESE?
LOOSE OR SHIFTING TEETH
Loose teeth signals possible bone loss and tissue loss that is a symptom you may have advanced periodontal disease. Your adult teeth should feel solid and firmly placed along your gum line. The same rules apply to shifting teeth. Teeth should not shift after your adult teeth have grown in. Shifting teeth is a symptom of bone loss and advanced gum disease.
RED OR SWOLLEN GUMS
Healthy gums cause no pain; they are not red or swollen. Swollen gums may be infected or signal an underlying tooth infection that needs attention right away. Infection in your teeth or gums can travel through your blood system and affect other areas of your body.
No, your teeth are not growing longer! Receding gum lines make them appear that way. If gum disease is left untreated, eventually, your gum lines may recede far enough to expose the roots causing serious pain. At this point, your options for repairing the damage may be limited.
THERE ARE TREATMENT OPTIONS AVAILABLE
SCALING AND ROOT PLANING
To preserve the health of your gum tissue, the first step is to remove the bacteria and calculus (tartar) that has built up on your teeth because that’s what’s causing the infection. Next, the gaps or “pockets” that have formed at the base of your teeth are cleaned and treated with laser disinfection. We may also prescribe an anti-bacterial mouthwash for you to use to use at home.
We also uses lasers to treat gum disease. The laser’s high-energy light beam removes diseased gum tissue in a virtually painless way and acts as a sterilizer along the way. With laser treatment, bleeding is reduced, swelling minimized and recovery time is much quicker. As an added bonus, because they are silent, there is less stress and anxiety for you. Due to the non-invasive nature of lasers, your mouth begins to heal immediately after your treatment.
Your bone or gum tissues have been destroyed, we use grafting to encourage regrowth.
POCKET ELIMINATION SURGERY
Also know as flap surgery, this surgical treatment is performed to decrease the size of the gap, or pocket between your teeth and gums. Jawbone surgery can help to fill any indentations in your jawbone to deprive bacteria of a place to colonize.
If you’ve lost any teeth to periodontal disease, Dr. Satvat can replace them with dental implants. This will improve both the appearance and functionality of your mouth. Tissue regeneration is often used to restore the strength of your jawbone before a dental implant is placed.
