Has a tooth gone missing?

A dental bridge is made up of an artificial tooth or teeth that are anchored to surrounding teeth via a bridge-like device. Using custom-crafted porcelain crowns, dental bridges provide a seamless, natural-looking smile without the drawbacks associated with dentures.

By replacing missing teeth with a dental bridge, you can protect yourself from the health problems that can occur such as:

·         a misaligned bite and subsequent TMJ pain

·         teeth that shift out of place over time

·         a higher risk of decay and infection as the gaps become harder to clean well.

A dental bridge can restore your smile

Dental bridges offer a nonsurgical option for tooth replacement, and they’re also considerably less costly than dental implants.

Dental bridges can restore your smile and prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting out of place. In addition to improving the appearance and functionality of your bite, a dental bridge can also give you the self-confidence that comes with an attractive, healthy looking smile.

Bridging the gap

There are 3 main types of dental bridges:

·         A traditional bridge involves making a crown of either ceramic or porcelain fused to metal which fits on the tooth on either side of the gap created by the missing tooth with a pontic in between.

·         A Cantilever bridge is used when adjacent teeth only exist on one side of the gap.

·         A Maryland bonded bridge is made of a metal framework which provides support for plastic teeth and gums. Metal wings on each side of the bridge bond to your existing teeth.

At your first visit to us the preparation will involve re-contouring the teeth where the bridge is needed by removing some enamel to give room for a crown to be placed on top of them. Teeth impressions are made, which serves as a model for making the bridge, the pontic and crowns which are made by our dental lab.
